Texas Tech freshman boasted a 73.8 strokes average during the fall slate

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech freshman golfer Sofia Garcia will be part of Team Paraguay beginning Wednesday morning when she tees off in the South American Team Championship held at the Lima Golf Club in Peravian, Peru.

Garcia, who played in four events for the Lady Raiders this fall, will look to help Paraguay defend its team title from a year ago. The three-day tournament features four players on each team in a match-play format.

Garcia put together a successful first semester as a Lady Raider as she boasted Tech's second-lowest stroke average with a 73.8 clip. She posted two top-25 finishes, highlighted by a fifth-place showing at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, just her second collegiate tournament.

The Lady Raiders concluded their fall slate with an eighth-place finish in a rain-shorted Trinity Forest Invitational in early November. Tech resumes its 2016-17 slate on Feb. 12-14 with the Lady Puerto Rico Classic held in San Juan.
