MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 10 Texas Tech women's tennis team will turn its attention to its first true road test of the 2016 season Friday at Wisconsin.
First serve is on-tap for 4 p.m. CT at the Nielson Tennis Stadium, site of the 2016 ITA National Indoor Championships where the Lady Raiders won two of their three matches last weekend. Live stats are available courtesy of www.TexasTech.com in addition to live match updates on the program's social media outlets at www.Facebook.com/TechWomensTennis and @TexasTechTennis on Twitter.
"In many ways, this is the biggest weekend of the season so far," Texas Tech head coach Todd Petty said. "We need to see how we bounce back after a very physically and very mentally challenging weekend from the ITA Indoors. Even though it was a successful weekend, we have challenged the ladies to have zero letdown during this weekend's action."
Texas Tech (6-1) broke into the Top 10 of the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings earlier this week on the strength of back-to-back wins over then No. 11 Miami and then No. 13 Alabama at the ITA National Indoor Championships last weekend. The Lady Raiders carry the highest ranking among Big 12 teams.
Tech has compiled a 22-8 singles ledger during the dual match season fueled by an 18-2 clip from the No. 3 through the No. 6 positions in the lineup.
Sarah Dvorak has anchored the No. 3 slot and won all five of her decisions. She sparked the Lady Raiders' 4-3 comeback win over Miami. From the No. 4 position, Alex Valenstein is fresh off her first match-clinching victory against Alabama.
Sabrina Federici and Felicity Maltby have carried the reigns at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Federici completed the Miami come-from-behind victory with a three-set triumph, while Maltby has won five of her six decisions in straight sets.
Gabriela Talaba and Lynn Kiro will see action on courts one and two for the Lady Raiders. Talaba is ranked No. 80 in singles with all three of her setbacks coming against Top 30 opponents.
The Lady Raiders will look to improve on their 7-10 doubles mark. Federici and Maltby have tucked away four of the team's seven victories from the top of the lineup.
Wisconsin (2-3) has dropped three consecutive decisions to then No. 6 California, then No. 9 Texas A&M and then No. 30 Fresno State at last weekend's ITA National Indoor Championships. The Badgers are led by Lauren Chypyha, who possesses a No. 26 singles ranking and is undefeated in dual match action.
