LUBBOCK, Texas --Texas Tech softball (9-12) closed the Texas Tech Invitational with a 4-2 record following a pair of games at Rocky Johnson Field Sunday afternoon. Texas Tech fell to Stephen F. Austin (9-12) 10-1 in the first game of the afternoon before topping UTSA (6-15) in the second half of the doubleheader."It was good that we could get out of the weekend feeling like we took care of business," said head coach Adrian Gregory. "I thought our approach against UTSA was way better than it was in our first game. I think we do have momentum moving forward and that is vital."
In the first game Stephen F. Austin opened the scoring with a four run third. The Ladyjacks combined for four hits in the inning before Mattison Maisel closed out the frame with a ground out to Brooke Scott at shortstop.
Texas Tech, who were held scoreless in the bottom of the third, turned the game over to Cheyene Powell in the top of the fourth. Unfortunately the change would not be enough as UTSA managed another four run inning that included a three run homerun to left field by Taylor Fracastoro.
In the bottom of the fifth, Texas Tech evaded the run rule with a score from Jordan Bettiol, sending the game to the sixth with Tech trailing SFA 8-1.
With Tech unable to scratch across another run, the top of the sixth came around and the bats of Stephen F. Austin were still hot. After a two run home run by Fracastoro the Red Raiders were held scoreless in the bottom of the frame ending the game early with Texas Tech falling 10-1.
The second game of the double header saw the Red Raiders facing off against UT San Antonio. After holding the Roadrunners scoreless in the first two innings, Kirsten Schwirtlich started the bottom of the second with a leadoff double. She would be brought in later that inning with a sacrifice fly out by Brittany Warnecke sending the game to the third inning with Texas Tech up 1-0.
The Red Raiders added to their lead in the third with Kaylee Strickland scoring from third off a Kiani Ramsey bunt that extended Tech's lead to 2-0.
After a scoreless fourth, the Roadrunners answered back with a run of their own to send the game to the bottom of the fifth with Tech holding a 2-1 advantage.

Following a scoreless sixth, the Roadrunners began their comeback loading the bases and prompting a pitching change for Texas Tech as Maisel came in to close out the game. UTSA managed to score three runs before the Red Raiders recorded the final out of the game to escape with a 6-4 win.
The team will be back in action next weekend as the Red Raiders will travel to College Station for a three game series against Texas A&M. Fans can follow all of the action from the 2016 softball season by following @TTUSB on Twitter.
