Ten Run Fourth Lifts Kansas over Texas Tech

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Texas Tech softball fell to Kansas 10-0 in the first game of the team's three-game series against the Jayhawks at Arrocha Ballpark Friday night. The loss dropped Texas Tech to 19-22 on the season, including a 4-3 record in Big 12 play.The Red Raiders out-hit the Jayhawks, 3-2, through the first three innings of play, but it was a nine-hit, 10-run, fourth inning that proved to be the dagger for the Red Raiders in Friday's game.
The Jayhawks connected on two home runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a grand slam by KU catcher Harli Ridling that gave the Jayhawks a commanding 10-0 lead heading to the top of the fifth.
Texas Tech strung together back-to-back singles following a pop out that began the inning, but the Kansas defense would hold the Red Raiders off the board to complete the shutout victory.
With the loss, the Red Raiders fall to 20-31 all-time against the Jayhawks, including a 9-11 mark against KU in Lawrence. Friday's shutout win by the Jayhawks marked the first time since the 2013 season that the Red Raiders were held scoreless, and was the first time that the Jayhawks have ever run ruled the Red Raiders.
