STOCKHOLM -- Texas Tech's Hannes Ronneblad has teed off in the Nordea Masters, a marquee event on the European Tour, in Stockholm, Sweden.
The top player who is not already exempt, who finishes in the top five and ties of the Nordea Masters will qualify for The 2016 Open Championship. Ronneblad could join former Red Raider Clement Sordet as qualifiers for the 2016 Open.
The Kungsbauka, Sweden native, playing as an amateur, is facing off against many high-level pros in this event, including Lee Westwood, who held a top-10 world ranking as recently as July 2013.
The event is taking place at Bro Hoff Slott Golf club, one of Sweden's premier golf facilities. The tournament will run today through Sunday, and live scoring can be found here.
This past weekend, Ronneblad was honored as a PING All-Central Region performer.
Ronneblad led the Red Raiders this season with a 73.5 stroke average. He opened the 2015-16 campaign by tying for first (-2) at the Carmel Cup, which was played at Pebble Beach. Ronneblad went on to finish under-par at three more tournaments.
Ronneblad was Texas Tech's best performer at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional, tying for 11th at 8-over. In what was Tech's 15th-straight postseason appearance, Ronneblad's final-round 76 included an eagle on the first hole, which helped thrust the Red Raiders into contention late.
