Cara Barker Finishes Second at Amateur Event

Cara Barker shot a three-day 230 to claim second place at the San Diego Amateur Championship

LUBBOCK, Texas- Freshman Cara Barker shot a third round round 78 (six-over) to finish in second place at the San Diego City Amateur Championship hosted by the Balboa Park Golf Course on Sunday afternoon.

Barker carded four birdies over the weekend in the event to finish just seven strokes back of Kaho Monica Matsurba who claimed first place honors following a 223 stroke showing.

Barker, who was one of three freshman on the Lady Raiders' 2015-16 roster, shot a 77 in round one of the three day tournament, before carding a 75 in round two. The 75 in round two represented the third lowest round score by any competitor at the event, finishing just behind Matsurba's round scores of 73 and 74.

Barker ended the three day event 14 over to finish two strokes ahead of Hanah Furuichi, who took home third place honors, and six strokes ahead of Maddelyn Zach and Jamie Binns who tied for fourth at the 12 player competition.
