Artac, Zucchetti Tee Off At U.S. Amateur
August 15, 2016 | Men's Golf
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Texas Tech's Federico Zucchetti and Wes Artac begin their quest for a berth in The Masters today at the U.S. Amateur Championship, held at Oakland Hills Country Club, in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
Â
The Red Raiders will participate in two rounds of stroke play, today and tomorrow. From there, if they finish in the top-64, they enter a match play knockout tournament, with each round consisting of eight holes. Should they make it all the way to the final, it would be a 36-hole event to determine the champion.
Â
The champion receives an invitation to play in The Masters, U.S. Open and the Open Championship, whereas the runner-up receives an invitation to play in The Masters and the U.S. Open.
Â
Zucchetti and Artac earned berths in the championship via a regional qualifying event at The Rawls Course in July.
Â
Both Red Raiders were integral parts of Tech's third-place finish at the Big 12 Championship and 15th-straight NCAA Regional berth earlier this year.
Â
Stroke play is Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, the knockout round begins and will be televised on FS1. Quarterfinals will be Friday and semifinals will take place on Saturday, both also televised on FS1. The final 18 holes of Sunday's championship will be televised on FOX.
