Garcia Enters Final Round in Tie for 18th Overall

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech freshman golfer Sofia Garcia will enter Saturday's final round of the World Amateur Championships in a tie for 18th overall after recording a 1-over 73 Friday at the Playa Paraiso Golf Club in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Garcia previously fired an even-par 72 during Thursday's second round. She started the 72-hole tournament with a 2-over card Thursday, which places her at 3-over overall for the four-day event which concludes Saturday.

In addition to the individual leaderboard, Garcia as well as her two Paraguay teammates – Maria Fernanda Escauriza and Milagros Chaves – have moved into 13th place in the team standings. Garcia's 3-over card leads Paraguay so far as Escauriza is 9-over for the tournament while Chaves is 12-over.

Garcia, a native of Asuncion, Paraguay, joined the Lady Raider golf program this fall as one of the top international prospects to head to the collegiate ranks.
