First-year assistant is the only three-time All-American in Ohio State softball history.
LUBBOCK, Texas - New Texas Tech assistant softball coach Sam Marder will be inducted this week as a member of the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame's Class of 2016. Marder was a standout player for Ohio State and the only three-time All-American in program history.
The Induction ceremony will take place on Sept. 9 at a dinner, and the 2016 class will be introduced to the public at halftime of the Ohio State home football game vs. Tulsa on Sept. 10.Â
Marder finished her career at Ohio State by cementing her status as one of the greatest power hitters in Ohio State history after setting both the single-season and career records for home runs (19 and 61, respectively). The 2010 OSU Female Athlete of the Year wrapped up her career with a .384 batting average, .778 slugging percentage and .571 on-base percentage, all records at OSU. She also holds the record for RBI (191), total bases (438) and walks (232). A four-time Ohio State Scholar Athlete, Marder's walk total ranks No. 5 all-time in NCAA Division I history, while she is also 26th in career home runs and her slugging percentage is the 15th-highest.
Following her career with Ohio State, Marder was the seventh overall pick in the 2010 National Professional Fastpitch (NPF) Draft by the Akron Racers.
Marder, a native of Calabasas, Calif., was also tabbed as the Racers 22nd Impact Honoree for her impressive career with the National Fast Pitch pro-league team. After her playing career, Marder has gone on to coach softball at Boise State for two seasons, and the College of Charleston for the past three seasons. She joined Adrian Gregory's Texas Tech staff in June.
"Sam was a tremendous player at Ohio State, and we are proud to celebrate this great honor with her," Gregory said. "All of the traits that made her a great player now make her a great coach, and she has already been an incredible addition to our staff."
