Lady Raiders Picked to Finish Second in Big 12

Texas Tech received 70 points in coaches’ preseason poll
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team was selected to finish second in the Big 12 preseason poll, the league office announced Wednesday.

The 2016 Big 12 Champions Oklahoma State secured the top spot with 81 points and a unanimous selection by the Big 12 coaches. The Lady Raiders collected 70 points and a first place vote.

Last week, the Lady Raiders made program history as they we selected No. 13 in the Oracle/ITA preseason poll, the highest in a preseason poll for the program. This marked the 30th straight poll ranked inside the ITA Top 25 dating back to Feb. 17, 2015.

Junior Gabriela Talaba leads the team ranked No. 26 in singles, also the highest ITA ranking for an individual in school history. Talaba ended the 2015-16 season at No. 78 and was ranked No. 56 in the preseason rankings.

Sophomore Felicity Maltby moved up 25 spots to No. 81 in the first rankings of the season. She was ranked No. 106 in the preseason ITA rankings.

Doubles team of Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici earned a Top 15 (No. 14) ranking to start the 2017 season. The duo advanced to the finals of the ITA Texas Regional Championships in the fall.

The Lady Raiders begin the 2017 season in Miami, Fla., for the Miami Spring Invitational on Jan. 20-22.
