Sofia Garcia finished in a tie for 14th Sunday at the South American Amateur Championship
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech freshman golfer Sofia Garcia dropped into a tie for 14th place Sunday afternoon at the South American Amateur Championship held at the Martindale Country Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Garcia, a two-time winner of the South American Amateur, entered the weekend in sole possession of third place before an even-par 72 third round Saturday and then a 4-over-par card on Sunday. Garcia was looking to become the first ever three-time winner of the event.

Isabella Fierro ran away with the tournament title after a 5-under round Saturday and then a 4-under card Sunday. She finished with a commanding 10-stroke lead to claim the individual title.

Garcia, the lone freshman on the Lady Raider roster, will return to Lubbock to start preparations for the 2017 spring season. Tech begins its spring campaign Feb. 12-14 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan.

The Lady Raiders will be looking to advance to the postseason for the seventh time under head coach JoJo Robertson as The Rawls Couse will host the NCAA Regional round on May 8-10.
