Long Leads the Way Through 36 Holes In El Paso
November 20, 2017 | Men's Golf
EL PASO, Texas – Texas Tech senior Hurly Long has continued his hot streak from the fall season, tying for the lead through 36 holes at the Sun Bowl Andeavor All-America Classic.
Long (-11) shot a first-round 65 and a second-round 66 over the span of a few hours on Monday, racking up 14 birdies in the process.
Long shares the lead with Texas' Doug Ghim, who birdied three of his last four holes to close out a second-round 64. The two will be paired together for tomorrow's final round, starting off the first tee at 8:40 a.m.
Interestingly, Long started both of his rounds 1-over, carding a bogey on the third hole of his first round and the first hole of his second round. However, in both rounds, he tallied six-straight birdies before carding another bogey. In the second round, he went bogey-free after that first hole.
Long has continued his great play from the fall, when he broke the Pebble Beach course record with a 61, on his way to the Carmel Cup championship.
Another Red Raider, Fredrik Nilehn, sits in 21st place after rebounding from an opening-round 77 with a 65 in round two.
Nilehn will tee off tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., off the 10th tee. Golfstat will provide live scoring.
