Red Raiders Stumble Against Islanders

Tech returns to action Thursday at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas Tech softball dropped its final game at the CenturyLink Classic to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, 2-0, Sunday at Bobcat Softball Field.
Islander right-hander Liz Carter pitched a no-hitter, and first basemen Kandace Johnson connected on a two-run home run in the sixth inning to push TAMUCC (1-4) to the win.
The Red Raiders, who beat the Islanders 7-0 on Friday, fall to 3-2 on the season and were no-hit for the first time since April 12, 2013 against No. 1 Oklahoma.The loss caps off a solid opening weekend for the Red Raiders. After opening a loss to host Texas State, Tech racked up wins against TAMUCC (7-0), Iowa (7-4) and Abilene Christian (3-0).
Texas Tech managed two base runners on the day. Senior Ashley Fultz managed a full-count walk to lead off the third inning and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Allison Knopp. Carter, however, recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.
Freshman Raina O'Neal drew a walk in the fourth inning, but was stranded there as the next two batters popped out to left field.
Countering Carter's performance was senior RHP Dominic Alcocer, who made her first start of the season. The Mexico City native pitched four scoreless innings, giving up only three hits and a walk while recording one punch out.
Freshman Hannah Broseman registered the loss for Texas Tech, giving up 2 runs, one earned in 1.1 innings of work. Fellow freshman Kassidy Scott came on following the home run, giving up two hits in 1.2 innings.

The Red Raiders go south of the border for the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge Feb. 16-19 at Nancy Almaraz Stadium. Tech begins play Thursday with games against Cal-State Fullerton (4:00 p.m. CST) and Florida Gulf Coast (7:00 p.m. CST).

Ramsey, however, gathered the ball and threw it in to shortstop Brittany Warnecke, who then relayed it home to catcher Allison Knopp who easily tagged out the runner trying to score, ending the inning with the score tied at 0-0.
