Softball Video Board Coming to Rocky Johnson Field

Latest upgrade to “The Rock” expected to be in place in time in early March.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Already heralded as one of the finest softball venues in the Big 12, Rocky Johnson Field will receive its latest upgrade, Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt announced Monday.
A brand new HD video board and scoreboard will be installed to replace the existing structure in right center field. The project, funded by the Campaign for Fearless Champions, will begin later this month and is estimated to be completed in March.
"The new video board and scoreboard will greatly enhance what is already one of the top softball facilities in the country," Hocutt said. "Part of our goal with the Campaign for Fearless Champions is to continue to provide our fans with the best gameday experiences possible, and this new video board helps us deliver on that promise."
The video board will measure 13.5 feet in height by 24.33 feet in width with a separate scoreboard underneath. Manufactured by Daktronics, the structure will include design elements similar to the video board at Jones AT&T Stadium.
"The video board will be a tremendous addition to Rocky Johnson Field that we feel will bring even more excitement to our home atmosphere," head coach Adrian Gregory said. "This serves as yet another example of how committed Texas Tech University is to our student-athletes and fans."
The video board is the latest of several renovations that have been completed at the complex over the last decade. A state-of-the-art indoor and team facility was added in time for the 2010 campaign following major field and dugout renovations in 2009. Permanent seating was added over the first and third base dugouts in 2012.
Most recently, Tech added fiberoptics in October 2016, which will allow the Red Raiders to appear more frequently on TV thanks to the athletics department's third-tier rights agreement with FOX Sports.
The Red Raiders are on the road throughout the remainder of February with tournaments at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and Tuscaloosa, Ala. The home slate begins March 3 as Tech hosts UTEP and Wichita State on the first day of the Texas Tech Invitational.
