Q&A: Assistant Coach Sam Marder
February 03, 2017 | Softball
Get to know first year assistant softball coach Sam Marder.
Sam Marder enters her first year as an assistant coach at Texas Tech. A 2016 Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Marder comes to Lubbock following a three-year stint as an assistant at the College of  Charleston. She oversees Tech's offensive efforts while also working with the Red Raider catchers.
We caught up with Marder to ask her a few questions.
 Â
Q: What is your favorite thing about Texas Tech so far?
A: Our team. From the first day I arrived everyone associated with this program made me feel a part of a family and at home. We have an incredible group of players and people that touch this program every day that I am blessed to be around.Â
Q: What is one thing you hope to bring to the program?
A:Â Just another person who believes in the vision that Coach Gregory and this team have already set, and someone who is not going to stop working until we achieve everything we want. Also, good dance moves.Â
Q: What did it mean to you to be inducted into the OSU Athletics Hall of Fame?Â
A: I was deeply humbled. It was a tremendous honor to be inducted into a Hall of Fame with such rich athletic tradition and a place that means so much to me. My favorite part of being inducted into Ohio State's Hall of Fame, however, was that I had a moment to properly thank everyone who had helped me get to that moment in my life. I believe I am just an ordinary person who has been surrounded by extraordinary people. A lot of those people were in the room with me that night, so to get a moment to look at them and thank them, that was one of the best moments of my life.Â
Q: What are you most excited about for the upcoming season?
A:Â To see us compete. Our team has been preparing since August to get on the field and is hungry to compete. Â Coach Gregory does an amazing job challenging our team every year with one of the best schedules in the country, and I am excited to see us fight for 56 games. Â
Q: Where is your favorite place on campus outside of the softball facility?
A: This year it has been the Rec. That is where our team has lifted and conditioned during fall and have put their entire hearts into the physical training aspect of what we do. I have seen people make huge strides in there that have directly correlated to huge strides on the field.Â
Q: What is your most prized possession and something that you could not live without?
A: My family would be the hardest thing for me to live without. However, during season my most prized possession will be the current cup of coffee I will be holding.Â
Q: What are you currently watching on Netflix?
A: I am a huge House of Cards fan so until that comes back on Netflix it is a flip between The Office, Family Guy and any new documentary that comes out on Netflix.Â
Q: Next to softball, what is your second favorite sport?
A: Baseball. Then college football.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant and favorite dish from there?
A: This is a three way tie. My favorite restaurant at home is a sushi place called Shibuya. Whenever I am back home I have to go there and get their house roll no matter what. However, as all coaches know they are out recruiting probably more than they are anywhere. When I am in Georgia the pepperoni pizza at OZ Pizza is the best you will ever have as well as the beef fajitas from Lupes in Texas.Â
Â
Q: What is your favorite movie and why?
A: I don't have a specific favorite movie, but movies that I will always watch if they are on are anything with Melissa McCarthy or any Judd Apatow movie, The Godfather, A League of Their Own, Bull Durham and Caddyshack.Â
