Texas Tech entered the Golfweek top-25 rankings at No. 22 in the publication’s latest poll Friday
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf program entered the Golfweek Magazine top-25 rankings for the first time this spring on Friday as the Lady Raiders came in at No. 22 nationally.
Â
The Lady Raiders are the second-highest ranked Big 12 school in the poll, trailing only No. 20 Baylor. Tech leads a trio of conference counterparts as Oklahoma, Texas and TCU made up spots 24-26 in the updated rankings.
Â
Tech had hovered around the top-25 in recent weeks, sitting at No. 29 prior to its appearance at the Dickson Invitational on Feb. 27-28 before moving up one spot prior to facing in-state rival Texas in a dual match this past Sunday.
Â
The dual-match victory over Texas moved the Lady Raiders up six spots as it was the second head-to-head win over a top-25 foe already this spring. Tech previously topped then-No. 13 Purdue by 12 strokes to open its spring slate in early February.
Â
In addition to its dual match victories, Tech has played a competitive tournament slate that featured a seventh-place finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic and then a fifth-place showing at the Dickson Invitational. Both tournaments included at least 10 teams that were ranked among Golfweek's top 50 at the start of the event.
Â
Individually, junior Gabby Barker remains Tech's highest-ranked golfer as she is 61st in Golfweek's player rankings. Freshman standout Sofia Garcia is also among the top-100 players at No. 88 overall while Mami Yamamoto and Lauren Mason came in at No. 168 and No. 174, respectively.
Â
The Lady Raiders, who opened the spring ranked 41st by Golfweek, will be off for the duration of Spring Break before returning to the links March 20 for the two-day Briar's Creek Invitational. The 54-hole event will take place at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, South Carolina.
