Player’s Blog: Resilient as a Seed

Resiliency is defined as the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. This has been the overall theme of the week as we move from a heartbreaking weekend into a new era. Conference play begins this upcoming week. A time for new beginnings, and a time to overcome the tough obstacles that have crossed our paths throughout the beginning of the season. This is a time to show what we are truly made of. This is a time to show the world that even throughout the storm, we will overcome victoriously as the fearless champions we are.
There's an old Mexican Proverb that states that, "They thought they could bury us, but didn't realize we were seeds." I feel like we took this to heart throughout this week as we came into practice with a chip on our shoulder and with the determination to let this tree grow and flourish into something magnificent and strong.
The week started out with two hard days of practice, perfecting our craft all under the West Texas sun that mimicked that of a mid-July summer day. These days were perfect to help grow this seed from the ground that seemed to be buried so deeply. Pushing through trials and personal struggles each individual player was able to cultivate something within themselves to help the team come up victorious for the first weekend of conference play. The next couple days, with a little bit of a cold front coming through, it will be a time to feel good about the work we have put in and focus intently on our opponent as we get in the last minute preparations before it's show time.
With rain in the forecast for this weekend in Ames, it's exactly what we need to water this seed to help sprout it into something brand new and unlike anything anyone has seen before. This weekend is the start of our quest to become what we have been told was never possible, and to recover from the hardships, stronger than ever. It's time to show the Big 12 and the rest of the NCAA what a Fearless Champion really looks like.
