SWEEP! SWEEP! SWEEP!
There's no better feeling than starting conference off with a spotless record! The start of Big 12 play was in the 40-degree air as we took the field with a fresh outlook. New stats, new record, new opportunities and we were ready to play some ball. In fact, we were so ready we thought we might as well go ahead and score 13 runs in the first inning of the series!Â
I guess you could say we opened up the floodgates and the weather certainly backed that up as our game on Saturday got rained out. However, we stayed ready when Sunday presented itself with a doubleheader. Rain, shine, sleet or snow, we were ready to take the series and sweep Iowa State off their feet, and that's exactly what we did!Â
After a successful weekend we were all ready to get back to Raiderland with an undefeated conference record under our belt. There were, however, some different plans in store for us. Due to a canceled flight, we were stuck around another night in Iowa before we could get back to good ole Lubbock, Texas. Nothing a little pizza couldn't fix though, right?
Through rain outs, cold weather, and canceled flights, nothing could bring us down. Now, most wouldn't look at circumstances like these and see much good in them. In fact most would describe them as horrible or unlucky. Although, if you were to ask anyone in this program they would tell you that that weekend was a perfect example of what this team is about: taking each day one at a time with its challenges as an opportunity to thrive in adversity.Â
As we go into our series against Baylor we use the momentum to fuel us, leaving no room for complacency to creep in. We will continue to take it one game at a time, one play at a time, one pitch at a time and will be a presence in the Big 12 Conference.
