April 19, 2017 | Track and Field
Charles Brown named Athlete of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Charles Brown was named Big 12 Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this outdoor season.
Brown is the first male track & field athlete in school history to claim this weekly honor more than once in an outdoor season. He is the second in school history for both indoor and outdoor combined, following Kennedy Kithuka who won in back-to-back weeks in his 2013 indoor season.
At the Horned Frog Invitational, Brown cleared an 8.30m/27-2.75 (+4.8w) jump to claim the meet crown and the wind-aided school record.
This jump also has Brown ranked first in the world for wind-assisted long jump marks.
Brown had a wind-legal jump of 8.25m/27-1 (+3.9w) that elevated his already nation leading mark from Texas Relays.
This marks Brown's third weekly conference honor overall.
His first award this season was owed to his Texas Relays long jump mark of 8.14m/26-8.50 that secured him the No. 2 all-time outdoor record.
This weekend Brown and the rest of the Red Raiders will be competing in Waco, Texas at the Michael Johnson Invitational on April 22.
