Tech Falls in Friday Nightcap at Big 12 Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Texas Tech softball finished pool play at the 2017 Big 12 Championship 0-2 after an 8-0 setback to top-seeded Oklahoma Friday evening in front of 1,757 fans at OGE Energy Field inside ASA Hall of Fame Stadium Complex.

With an 0-2 showing Friday in pool play, Tech moves to the fifth-place game against No. 5-seeded Iowa State, who also went 0-2, set for Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at OGE Energy Field at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. Texas Tech swept the Cyclones during the regular season.

"I believe bringing this tournament back is a great thing," head coach Adrian Gregory said. "Kids get a postseason feel, and it is a driving force to want more. Our kids want more, and that's a very good thing."

Sophomores Jessica Hartwell and Kiani Ramsey recorded hits in the game, while senior Kierra Miles earned a base on balls to reach base safely in both contests Friday. Hartwell, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, leads the team with a .333 average in Oklahoma City.

The No. 6 seed Red Raiders (18-36 overall, 4-14 Big 12) were held to two hits while Oklahoma (48-8 overall, 17-1 Big 12) connected on four home runs on their way to the win.

Oklahoma second baseman Caleigh Clifton hit two home runs and finished 3-4, while freshman Nicole Mendes and sophomore Sydney Romero also went yard for the Sooners, who advance to tomorrow's Big 12 Championship game against Oklahoma State.

Freshman pitcher Kassidy Scott (10-22) got the nod in the circle for the 17th time in 20 games against Big 12 foes this season. She allowed four runs on five hits in four innings before senior Mattison Maisel took over and delivered three innings in relief. Oklahoma's Mariah Lopez (16-1) got the win surrendering two hits in four innings before Sooner Paige Lowary threw three innings to earn the save (6).
