Barker, Culver Collect Top Honors at Annual TECHspys

Trey Culver was named the Male TECHspy while Gabby Barker was the Female TECHspy on Monday night
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech men's track and field standout Trey Culver was named the Male TECHspy while women's golfer Gabby Barker collected Female TECHspy of the Year honors on Monday night at the annual TECHspy Awards held inside Allen Theater.
Over 200 student-athletes were recognized for their performance not only on the playing field but also in the classroom during Tech's annual celebration of its best and brightest.
The award for outstanding community service was presented to Candi Whitaker's women's basketball program while four women athletes received the Margaret E. Wilson award, including Brooke Denesi (Soccer), Kiani Ramsey (Softball), Hattie Schunk (Women's Track & Field/Cross Country)Â and Katelyn Bryant (Volleyball).
Tech also honored its top graduating seniors for each sport: Rebekah O'Brien (Soccer), Cameron Batson & Talor Nunez (Football), Katherine 'Reece' Timmons (Women's Track & Field), Marguerite Grubb (Volleyball), Lauren Mason (Women's Golf), Carlos DiLaura  (Men's Tennis), Devon Thomas (Men's Basketball), Ryan Long (Baseball), Hannes Ronneblad and Adam Strom (Men's Golf), and Kierra Miles (Softball).
The women's tennis program's successful 2015-16 season earned the Lady Raiders the Women's Team of the Year award while head coach Todd Petty was recognized as the Women's Coach of the Year. The Red Raider baseball program swept both awards on the men's side, meanwhile, as head coach Tim Tadlock was recognized after leading the Red Raiders to the Big 12 regular-season title in 2016 and their second trip to the College World Series in a three-year span.Â
Good Citizen awards were presented to athletes who serve their community in various ways. The female recipients of the award were Zuri Sanders (Women's Basketball) who volunteered with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Hannah Henriksen (Volleyball) who volunteered with Love Your Melon organization. The male recipient of the Good Citizen award was Talor Nunez (Football). In additon, Suzanne Dickenson, the academic advisor for track and field, women's tennis and volleyball, was presented the Athletic Administrator Appreciation Award.Â
The athletic awards presented in Monday night's banqut were voted on by participating student-athletes, coaches and athletic department employees while the academic awards were chosen by athletic academic staff. The TECHSPYS are an annual event coordinated by the Athletic Academic Services department.
