Collins Wraps Up USATF Competition in 400m

Kyle Collins comes out of the finals at the USATF Senior Championships with an eighth-place finish.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kyle Collins entered the third round of the men's 400m dash competition today, coming out with an eighth-place overall finish with his 45.49 time.
In the quarterfinals Collins ran a lifetime-best, clocking a sub-45 second race for the first time ever. His 44.95 run against Texas Tech alumni and Olympic gold medalist Gil Roberts granted him a third-place finish, qualifying him onto the semifinals based on time.
In the semifinals yesterday, Collins ran the third-fastest time of his career at a 45.10 race to claim a third-place heat finish and ninth-place finish overall.
Two out of three of Collins' races would have served as all-time Texas Tech record runs, one of which beating out a mark made by Roberts back in 2009.
Tomorrow, Trey Culver will wrap up the USATF Championships for the Red Raiders in the men's high jump, beginning at 2:05 p.m. CDT.
