The Player's Journal: Game Week
February 08, 2018 | Softball
The second of a weekly series that connects the fans directly with the 2018 Red Raider softball team.
Well, here it is. The moment we've all been waiting for… GAME WEEK! Half a year of preparation and hard work has all been leading up to this, our first games to kick off the spring. And, are we ready to ball? YES.
With game week comes a remarkable energy that cannot be replaced by anything else. Knowing that we couldn't be more prepared than we are now brings an undeniable confidence (ok the new uniforms help out a little bit too.) It's exciting not only to be out on the field, but to see how much we have progressed as a unit since our first practice. Our team has come out to practice with this very time in the front of our minds, thinking with every rep we come closer to game day. Needless to say, after A LOT of reps, here we finally are! Trust the process, right?
Our first spring games will be taking us to College Station, Texas. Don't worry about us though because me and the rest of my Houston area teammates have made this drive a time or two…or 10. Being so close to home means having the support of our hometown friends and family, which is always fun and a rowdy experience. It's always a great thing to look up in the stands and see some familiar faces.
Most importantly, we are going to College Station on a mission. To set the tone for the season. Nothing can stop this team and the hunger we have to play each and every game with heart. We have been waiting for this all year and nothing is going to stop us from coming at this weekend full force.
Every year is a new opportunity, a clean slate and another chance to do what we love. We have set a team theme, built a covenant, hustled tirelessly and put in the hours. Time to go to work.
