Yamamoto Sinks Two Eagles During First Two Rounds in Utah

Texas Tech drained three eagles as a team to sit in fourth place entering Tuesday’s final round
LUBBOCK, Texas – Mami Yamamoto and Lauren Mason signed for a pair of 2-under-par 70 cards as part of a strong second round Monday afternoon as Texas Tech closed the opening day of the Entrada Classic in fourth place.

Yamamoto and Mason were consistent over 36 holes as the duo carded similar 1-over opening rounds before blistering the Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club with a furry of birdies during the afternoon session. They enter Tuesday's final round tied for sixth individually at 1-under for the tournament.

Mason sank three of her six birdies on the day during the second round, all of which came during her first nine holes. Mason made her way into the clubhouse following a par on each of her final nine holes as she recorded bogey or worse on just four of the 36 holes overall.

Yamamoto, meanwhile, managed to eagle the par-5 1st hole during both rounds as she was the only player in the 75-person field with multiples eagles on the day. Amy Taylor drained an eagle at the 1st during the opening round as well, making Tech the only school in the 14-team field with multiple eagles.

Yamamoto, who started both rounds with back-to-back birdies at the 5th and 6th holes, will be looking for her second top-10 finish this season Tuesday as she and Mason trail Kent State's Pimnipa Panthong by five strokes heading into the final 18 holes.

As a team, Tech finished with a 10-over 298 opening round that was cut by nine strokes later in the afternoon. Kent State captured the opening-day lead after combining to shoot even-par as a team. Tournament host BYU follows two strokes back in second place while No. 26 North Carolina is in third at 9-over for the tournament, two strokes ahead of the Red Raiders.

Gabby Barker chipped in Tech's third-lowest combined score after finishing 6-over during the morning session and then at even-par during the second round. Barker, who had two birdies and 16 pars during the afternoon, is currently tied for 28th on the individual leaderboard.

Only a stroke separates Tech's pair of freshmen as Louisa Brunt combined to shoot 11-over to sit in a tie for 45th overall while Taylor is a swing back in a tie for 50th individually. Taylor opened the tournament with a 2-over opening round that was helped in part by her eagle at the 1st.

The Red Raiders will begin the final round with a 9:30 a.m. CT shotgun start Tuesday morning. Live scoring will be available throughout the round at www.Golfstat.com.
