The Players' Journal: Cali Homecoming
March 08, 2018 | Softball
Written by USA Softball National Player of the Week Jessica Hartwell
We started off this last week by splitting our midweek doubleheader against NMSU and then got a couple more days of practice to prepare for Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic. We went into the tournament feeling confident and ready to play.
Â
The first game against UNM went into extra innings, and I couldn't be more proud of the fight and heart that we showed as a team in coming back several times to stay in the game, but ultimately lost in 10 innings. Out of this frustrating loss we showed so much resilience by never letting up the rest of the weekend and getting four straight wins against Bowling Green, UTSA, and UNM again.
Â
Several players stepped up over the weekend to help with these four wins. Cheyenne and Erin both threw complete game wins and Michaela and heaven both carry 11-game hit streaks.
Â
Overall everyone believed in their abilities, trusted the plan and the results showed. The bats were consistently hot, pitchers did their job in the circle and defense held it down to come out with a winning streak again.Â
Â
Looking forward, we are traveling to California today for a 10-day trip where we will play 11 games in Northridge, Long Beach, and Riverside. I personally am looking forward to being a little bit closer to home and seeing some of my family, who have been my biggest supporters since the tee ball days. This next week-and-a-half is going to be full of great competition, a lot of traveling and making some awesome memories with the best teammates and coaches.
Â
Keep up with us on extending our winning streak and playing the game we all love so much!
