The Players' Journal: Finish Strong
April 26, 2018 | Softball

This past weekend was a special one if I say so myself. We were in Lubbock for our last Big 12 home series and, although we didn't get the series win, Sunday we got to celebrate Senior Day for Cheyenne, Kaylee and myself. Wait, we're not really seniors already are we? That cannot be right! Where did the time go? I can remember the day Cheyene and I were texting about committing around the same time, and when Kaylee and I realized we have the same birthdays!
I could NOT have written up a more perfect Senior Day if I tried. Sunny and 75 (insert Joe Nichols' voice here), friends and family at the ballpark, playing the incredible game we fell in love with 16 years ago. There is no other reason behind the beautiful day other than the hands of God Himself. Oh and not to mention a HUGE W! Nothing felt more refreshing and revitalizing than finally coming out with a win. Although if you asked coach G, she might say the pie to the face wasn't so refreshing. but I bet the cooler of ice water sure was!
But, "It's not about how you start, it's how you finish." I know, I know, this statement couldn't be anymore cliché, but for us this statement couldn't be anymore true. Although, looking back we had a strong start to the season, we have lost some games recently that we know we should have won. Instead of focusing on that though, we're looking forward to a strong finish, and that's the only thing we will accept.
This weekend we have an opportunity to show that we trust in our theme and believe the walls around our "Jericho" are in the midst of breaking down. This weekend we have an opportunity to play our game our way: aggressive, out of the gate, all in. This weekend we have an opportunity for three wins in Kansas to clinch a spot at the Big 12 Tournament. One at a time. Let's win some ball games.
