Gabby Barker combined to shoot 3-over Monday to push Texas Tech to sixth place in Tulsa
LUBBOCK, Texas – Gabby Barker closed the opening two rounds of the Dale McNamara Invitational two strokes off the individual lead Monday afternoon as Texas Tech ended the day in sixth place at the Tulsa Country Club.
Â
Barker combined to shoot 3-over-par over 36 holes to sit in sole possession of fifth place entering Tuesday's third and final round. She trails the foursome of Olivia Jackson of host Tulsa, Emma Broze from Oklahoma State and the Texas A&M tandem of Maddie Szeryk and Amber Park.
Â
Barker, who is looking for her second top-10 finish in as many tournaments and her third of the season, benefited from an even-par 70 second round where she opened with a birdie at the par-4 5th, just her second hole of the afternoon, and then proceeded to record 13-consecutive pars.
Â
Outside of Barker, Louisa Brunt and Lauren Mason are tied for 18th overall at 9-over for the tournament, while Mami Yamamoto is tied for 32nd after combining to shoot 13-over during the two rounds. Amy Taylor rounded out the Tech lineup in a tie for 43rd at 16-over.
Â
As a team, Tech drained eight birdies during the second round to record a 13-over 293 card that was eight strokes better than its opening 18 holes. The Red Raiders, who are 34-over for the tournament, are two strokes back of Fresno State in fifth place, which would mark their fifth top-five finish this season.
Â
No. 17 Oklahoma State jumped out to the opening-day lead at 12-over followed by Texas A&M at 18-over, Mississippi State at 26-over and Texas State at 30-over. Tech has a 12-stroke gap between the Red Raiders and host Tulsa in seventh place.
Â
Tech will be paired with Texas State and Fresno State when play resumes with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday morning. Live scoring will be provided throughout the round at www.BirdieFire.com.
