LUBBOCK, Texas – Former Texas Tech high jumper Trey Culver and current Red Raider sprinter Andrew Hudson are set to compete on behalf of U.S. Track & Field at the North American, Central American, and Caribbean Championships in Toronto, ON.
Culver, a seven-time All-American and two-time NCAA Champion will compete in the high jump at 4:10 p.m. CT on Saturday, Aug. 11. Hudson, a seven-time All-American on the track, will run in the qualification of the 200m at 10:40 a.m. CT on Friday, August 10. Should he make the semi-finals, he will run later in the day at 8:00 p.m. CT. The 200m final will take place at 1:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, Aug. 12.
Culver is coming off a final season in which he garnered First Team All-American honors in both the indoor and outdoor high jump. He cleared at 2.33m/7'-7.75" at the Tech-hosted Corky Classic in January to set a new school record, breaking the previous mark of 2.29m/7'-6" formerly held by recent Texas Tech greats JaCorian Duffield and Bradley Adkins. Culver used the momentum to score eight points for the Red Raiders at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, which they went on to win. He placed runner-up at NCAA Indoors with a 2.21m/7'-3".
Come springtime, Culver began the year with a second-place finish at the competitive Texas Relays. He again scored eight points for the Red Raiders at the conference meet to help them sweep the Big 12 Championships. He won the NCAA West Preliminary before going on to place fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Hudson was named an All-American four times in 2018 – twice indoor and twice more outdoor. He made the First Team indoor list in the 200m thanks to a 20.73 that netted him sixth place at the national meet. He then placed 13th in the 60m to earn Honorable Mention. Prior to the national meet, Hudson was instrumental in Tech's Big 12 Indoor title, racking up 18 points after winning the 60m and placing runner-up in the 200m.
In the spring, Hudson set a personal record of 10.26 in the 100m in the prelims of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships. He came away from the conference meet earning 21 points for the Red Raiders. Individually, he took third in the 100m and fourth in the 200m before guiding the 4x100 team to a Big 12 title. At the national meet, he was named Second Team All-American in the 4x100 and Honorable Mention in the 200m.
A full recap of the two Red Raiders' performances will be available after each day of competition. For live updates on the meet, as well as information on all things Red Raider Track & Field, follow @TexasTechTF on Twitter.
