Dr. Tyler Bradstreet joins Texas Tech Athletics in a newly-created position as Director of Clinical and Sport Psychology
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech has named Dr. Tyler Bradstreet as its Director of Clinical and Sport Psychology, a newly-created position that will enable the athletics department to continue providing first-class medical care to its student-athletes.
Â
In this role, Bradstreet will provide specialized clinical and sports psychology services for Texas Tech student-athletes across all 17 sports as part of a structured program through the sports medicine department. Bradstreet will present to student-athletes regularly and will be available for one-on-one evaluations as needed.
Â
"Dr. Bradstreet is a vital addition to our sports medicine staff as we strive to provide our student-athletes with the best medical care available," said Grant Stovall, Senior Associate Athletics Director in charge of Texas Tech's sports medicine program. "We recognize the needs of our student-athletes, and as a department, we want to continue to evolve to fit those needs. Dr. Bradstreet is a great addition to our staff, and he will be an invaluable resource to our student-athletes."
Â
Bradstreet joins the athletics department after recently completing his doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Texas Tech University earlier this year. He also earned a master's degree in counseling psychology from Texas Tech in 2015 and a master's in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport and exercise psychology from the University of North Texas in 2013.
Â
Bradstreet has been published in more than 20 studies throughout his career. He has also been a featured speaker at sports psychology conferences across North America with trips to Denver, Washington D.C. and Canada among others.
Â
During his studies, Bradstreet received clinical training in clinical, health and sport psychology through the Texas Tech athletics department. He also has experience in the Lubbock area focusing on behavioral medicine through University Medical Center, outpatient mental and behavioral health through Texas Tech's student wellness program and psychological assessment through StarCare Specialty Health Systems. He has served in clinical trainings in Maryland and North Carolina as well.
Â
"Having previously been a graduate assistant from 2014-17, it was an easy decision to come back and work for Texas Tech sports medicine when the opportunity arose," Bradstreet said. "From the beginning of my time with sports medicine, it was clear that, as a staff, they strive to foster a culture of health among their student-athletes that includes both physical and mental well-being. As such, our clinical and sport psychology service will continue and provide psychological services to Texas Tech student-athletes that foster mental health and well-being and promote performance excellence in sport competition and in the classroom."
Â
In addition to his role with the athletics department, Bradstreet will serve as an adjunct assistant professor in the Texas Tech Department of Psychological Sciences. He previously served as a teaching assistant while earning his master's degrees at both Texas Tech and North Texas.
Â
Bradstreet is a member of the American Psychological Association, the APA Practice Organization, Texas Psychological Association, Society for Health Psychology and the Society for the Psychological Study of Men. He is a board or committee member in several of those organizations as well.
