Lady Raiders Bow Out of ITA Regional Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team bowed out of the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Raiders advanced three singles players to the round of 16 and one to the quarterfinals, while one Tech doubles team advanced to the doubles main draw quarterfinals.

The day began with sophomore Olivia Peet and freshman Margarita Skriabrina in the doubles quarterfinals against Texas A&M's Jessica Anzo and Lucia Quiterio. The Lady Raider duo battled, but dropped the 8-4 bout to finish off the weekend with a 3-1 mark, including a win over the nation's 16th-ranked doubles team on Friday morning.

In singles, freshman Lisa Mays got her day started with a win in the round of 16 over Texas A&M's Mariya Shumeika. Mays earned the 6-1, 7-6(7) victory to advance to the tournament quarterfinals; however in the quarters, Mays came up short to Marta Perez-mur of Texas in a 0-6, 7-6(9), 6-3 match.

Isa DiLaura's run through the main draw came to an end in the round of 16 in a 6-3, 6-4 loss to the tournament's top seed Katya Townsend of Texas A&M. DiLaura wraps up an impressive week, in which she went 3-1 in singles with two wins in straight sets.

Skriabrina came up short of reaching the quarterfinals as well with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Texas's Lexi Ryngler—the No. 6 seed. The Texas Tech freshman went 2-1 on the week to advance to the round of 16 at her first career ITA Regionals appearance.

Next up for Texas Tech is the Arizona State Invitational, set for Nov. 8-10 in Tempe, Ariz.
