Texas Tech Opens Play at Thunderbird Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Texas Tech women's tennis team opened play at the Thunderbird Invitational on Friday afternoon, taking on players from Arizona State and Mississippi State.

The Lady Raiders got good match experience on Friday, facing opponents from the Sun Devils and Bulldogs, who both finished last season in the ITA team rankings.

The day started in doubles, where Isa Di Laura—teamed up with Arizona State's Savannah Slaysman—was able to pick up a doubles win against Mississippi State's Magda Adaloglou and Valeria Nikolaev, 6-4. Tech's Lisa Mays and Nell Miller came up short to Sun Devils Ilze Hattingh and Sammi Hampton, 6-3, while Reagan Collins and Kennedy Bridgforth fell to Emma Antonaki and Meredith Roberts of Mississippi State, 6-4.

In singles, the Lady Raiders were matched up with the Sun Devils and Bulldogs again, and faced a number of tough opponents. Miller fell, 6-4, 6-3, to No. 115 Magda Adaloglou in the lone ranked contest. Bridgforth, Collins and Di Laura also came up short in their singles matches.

On Saturday, Texas Tech will take on Notre Dame in singles beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT, followed by doubles against Michigan at noon CT.
