Corey Taylor, Travis Bruffy and Divine Oduduru among student-athletes earning degrees this weekend
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics will have 23 of its student-athletes earn their degrees this weekend during the university's fall commencement ceremonies held at United Supermarkets Arena.
Â
The list of graduates includes former Red Raider pitcher Corey Taylor, who has completed his degree all while navigating his way through the New York Mets farm system. Taylor was a member of Texas Tech's first ever College World Series team in 2014 and finished his career in 2015 as the nation's leader for lowest earned-run average with a 0.31 clip that featured only two earned runs over his 57.1 innings pitched.
Â
Each of the student-athletes graduating this weekend will walk the stage wearing a special stole that signifies the individual's status as a student-athlete. The stoles are part of a recently-established tradition that began with the 2017 spring commencement ceremonies.
Â
Commencement exercises begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon with the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education and the J.T. and Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts. That ceremony will be followed by the Graduate School at 7:30 p.m. later that evening.
Â
Graduates from the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering, the College of Human Sciences, University Programs and Wind Energy will walk the stage at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. The final ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, featuring the Jerry S.
