Red Raiders in Sixth at Myrtle Beach Regional

MURRELLS INLET, South Carolina – Texas Tech will go into the final round of the Myrtle Beach Regional in sixth place with senior Ivan Ramirez in 10th individually at 3-under-par and Kyle Hogan and Sandy Scott in the top-20 after the second round on Tuesday at TPC of Myrtle Beach. Â
The NCAA regional round consists of six 54-hole regional tournaments that are being conducted Monday-Wednesday throughout the country with the low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional advancing to the finals. The Red Raiders, who are three strokes behind the fifth-place team, are tied with Oregon for sixth at 1-over after posting 289-288 – 577 through two rounds. Ohio State leads the regional tournament at 11-under with a team scorecard of 284-281 – 565, followed by Wake Forest and Illinois who are both at 9-under through 36 holes, UNLV (4-under) and Cal (2-under). Â
Texas Tech is scheduled to begin its final round at 7 a.m. on Wednesday with Jansen Smith followed by Adam Blomme (7:11), Scott (7:22), Hogan (7:33) and Ramirez teeing off at 7:44. The Red Raiders will be paired with UNLV and Cal for the third round.
Ramirez has a two-round scorecard of 70-71 – 141 going into the final round of the regional after recording four birdies during his round on Tuesday. A Colombia native, Ramirez has made eight birdies through two rounds and finished at 1-under on Tuesday after going 3-under on the back-9 with three straight birdies on 12, 13 and 14 before making par on his final four holes of the second round. He is currently 4-under on par 5s and even-par on par 3s on the Myrtle Beach course going into the final round.
A sophomore from Cypress, Hogan is tied for 17th in his first regional appearance of his career with a 71-73 – 144 scorecard. Hogan made two birdies, 13 pars and three bogeys during his round on Tuesday. He was 1-under on the back-9 with three pars to finish off the round. Scott, who is ranked No. 13 individually in the nation, finished 1-under on Tuesday and is tied for 20th with a two-round total of 74-71 – 145 for the Red Raiders. Scott was named a Jack Nicklaus Award Semifinalist on Monday afternoon and responded with five birdies on Tuesday in the second round. He was 1-under on the back-9 with birdies on 12 and 14 along with a bogey at 13. He would par his final four holes for the 1-under round.
Blomme and Smith will go into the final round tied for 41st overall at 4-over for the tournament. A senior from Sweden, Blomme is at 74-74 – 148 for the Red Raiders after posting a 2-over round on Tuesday that saw him make four birdies but also six bogeys. Smith also made four birdies during his second round along with five bogeys to take his tournament card to 75-73 – 148.
The individual tournament leaders will go into Wednesday at 8-under with Oregon's Edwin Yi and Illinois' Michael Feagles topping the field through two rounds. Yi shot a round of 5-under on Tuesday, while Feagles has a 68-68 – 136 card. With Ramirez at 3-under for the Red Raiders, he'll look to climb up the leaderboard that has Ohio State's Caleb Ramirez (7-under) in third three golfers at 5-under and three more at 4-under. Florida State (2-over) and Northwestern State (4-over) remain in contention going into Wednesday.
The Red Raiders are currently second in the tournament with 37 birdies made and are 12-under as a team on par 5s. Tech is also second in the field at 7-over on par 4s. Through two of three rounds, TPC of Myrtle Beach has players averaging rounds of 73.71.

Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The University of Arkansas is the host institution for the 2019 championships.Â
