Garcia Earns All-Big 12 Honors

Sofia Garcia one of 10 players to collect all-conference selection
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore women's golfer Sofia Garcia was named to the 2019 All-Big 12 team in a vote by the conference coaches Thursday.
"I'm very proud of Sofia," head coach JoJo Robertson said. "It's great to see her recognized for her incredible year."
Garcia's recognition comes on the heels of a historic season in which she led all Big 12 golfers with a 71.6 stroke average, the nation's fifth-best mark. Her adjusted scoring average (+0.727) and scoring average versus par (-0.44) led the conference, while her 124 birdies on the year and average of 3.71 subpar strokes per round were also Big-12 bests.
Garcia became the sixth Red Raider in program history to garner All-Big 12 nods, and the first since Gabby Barker was named the Big 12 Player of the Year in 2016.
Thursday's award is the second postseason accolade for Garcia, as she was named as a second team All-American by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) a week ago. She was also twice named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for her efforts in the months of November and April.
The All-Big 12 team is selected by the average final rankings of the Golfstat and Golfweek Magazine polls. Each golfer must also have participated in at least eight rounds during the spring semester and played in either the Big 12 or NCAA tournaments.
The list of individuals joining Garcia on the All-Big 12 team includes: Gurleen Kaur (Baylor), Kaitlin Milligan (Oklahoma), Greta Bruner (TCU), Sabrina Iqbal (TCU), Agathe Laisen (Texas), Kaitlin Papp (Texas), Hailee Cooper (Texas), Sara Kouskova (Texas) and Emilee Hoffman (Texas).
Garcia will have another opportunity to add to her collection of awards, as Golfweek will announce its All-American selections in the weeks to come. She will also compete in the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup at the Alotian Club in Arkansas from June 7-9.
