Women’s Tennis Picked Sixth in Big 12 Preseason Poll
January 07, 2020 | Women's Tennis
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team has been picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 by the league's head coaches, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Texas garnered six first-place votes, Oklahoma State collected three and Baylor received one to make up the top three positions. Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas Tech were followed by TCU, Kansas State, Iowa State and West Virginia to complete the poll.
Head coach Todd Petty returns five players from the 2018-19 campaign, while also bringing a handful of talented freshmen into the fold. The Lady Raiders return Kennedy Bridgforth, Nell Miller and Olivia Peet who each saw action in the team's dual season in 2019, helping Tech to its program-best eighth-straight NCAA Tournament bid.
Petty has also recruited the nation's No. 4 recruiting class, led by fall enrollees Margarita Skriabina and Lisa Mays, as well as Bojana Marinkov who just arrived in Lubbock for the spring semester.
Big 12 tennis gets underway on Friday, January 10 with five women's teams scheduled to compete, including the Lady Raiders. Conference play will open on Sunday, March 1.
