ATLANTA – The Texas Tech men's golf team fell to Texas in the consolation match of the East Lake Cup on Wednesday at the East Lake Golf Club.
The Red Raiders took a 5-0-0 defeat to the Longhorns to wrap up the three-day event and complete their fall schedule. Tech played in four fall tournaments, including the Big 12 Match Play Tournament before completing the season at the prestigious event in Atlanta. The Red Raiders dropped a 3-2-0 decision to Pepperdine on Tuesday after Monday's stroke play round that was led by sophomore Garrett Martin who finished at 2-under-par and in fourth place.
The final day set up the Red Raiders with Texas after the Longhorns fell 3-2-0 to Oklahoma on Tuesday. Texas secured the sweep with losses by Tech's Andy Lopez, JP Roller, Markus Braadlie, Baard Skogen and Martin. Skogen and Roller each won matches on Tuesday for the Red Raiders.
Pepperdine won the East Lake Cup team championship with a 4-1-0 win over the Sooners on Wednesday.
Texas Tech has not announced its spring schedule at this time but will on TexasTech.com when available. The Red Raiders will be represented next week at the Houston Open by senior Kyle Hogan who won the Maridoe Collegiate two weeks ago in Carrollton. Hogan will be the second Red Raider to play in a PGA event this fall after Sandy Scott competed in the U.S. Open. Hogan shot 1-under at the Maridoe to capture his first collegiate win and secure the exemption to play in the event as an amateur.
