Hogan Shoots 1-Under in 2nd Round of Houston Open
November 06, 2020 | Men's Golf
HOUSTON, Texas – Texas Tech senior Kyle Hogan shot 1-under-par in the second round of the Houston Open on Friday at Memorial Park, but missed the cut in his first PGA Tour event after struggling in the opening round.
A Cypress, Texas native, Hogan carded a 69 in his second round after making four birdies, 11 pars and just three bogeys. The round of 1-under came after he shot 81 on Thursday in the opening round to make it an uphill battle to remain in the tournament. With Texas Tech head coach Greg Sands as his caddie, Hogan opened Friday by completing the final two holes of the opening round that were suspended due to darkness and then went out and shot even-par (35) on the front-9. He would birdie No. 10 to move to 1-under and was back at 1-under after another birdie on the par-5, 572-yard No. 16 hole. Hogan made par on his final two holes to finish at 10-over through two rounds with the cutline at 2-over.
Hogan qualified for the Houston Open by winning the Maridoe Collegiate at 1-under-par last month in Carrollton, Texas. He was playing as an individual in the event where he was the only player under-par to secure the exemption to play in his first PGA Tour event. An All-American as a junior, Hogan's win at Maridoe was his first collegiate victory and followed an appearance at the U.S. Amateur Championship during the summer. His win propelled him up to No. 14 in the PGA Tour University Rankings.
In his fifth year at Texas Tech after redshirting his first season, Hogan has earned his bachelor's degree in Finance and is currently pursuing his MBA. Along with earning Golfweek All-American honors last season, he was also named an All-American Scholar.
The Houston Open was his first PGA Tour event and was held just 22 miles from his hometown of Cypress.
