Ludvig Aberg secured a 2-and-1 win in his lone match Monday at the Arnold Palmer Cup
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Arnold Palmer Cup got off to mainly a one-sided affair Monday as the international team featuring Texas Tech golfers Ludvig Aberg and Sofia Garcia won eight of 12 matches for a commanding 9-3 lead.
Â
Aberg, playing with Maja Stark in the 10th match, helped secure a 2-and-1 victory for the international team's final win of the day after defeating the U.S. duo of John Augenstein and Allyson Geer. Aberg and Stark sank a birdie at the par-3 17th to secure the win, their sixth birdie of the round and their third over the final five holes.
Â
Garcia, meanwhile, was on the wrong side of one of the U.S. team's two victories on the day as she and partner Sam Choi fell, 4-and-3, to Zach Zediker and Allisen Corpus. The match was tied through the front nine before the U.S. duo won the next three holes and then wrapped the win with a birdie at the par-4 15th.
Â
Garcia was part of the international team's victory in the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup as the group of overseas players hasn't defeated its American counterparts in back-to-back years since the 2008-09 events.
Â
Garcia will be paired with Ingrid Lindblad in the 7:45 a.m. start time from the No. 10 tee Tuesday morning against Gina Kim and Kenzie Wright. The tournament will return to a mixed format in the afternoon as Garcia will be teamed with Choi again against Allisen Corpus and Davis Thompson.
Â
Averg and partner Vincent Norman will face Pierceson Coody and Garett Reband in the 8:15 a.m. pairing Tuesday morning. He and Stark will play Julia Johnson and Garett Reband in the afternoon to complete the second day of the three-day event at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando.
Â
Live scoring for Tuesday's two sessions will be provided throughout the day at Golfstat.com.
