Mays Named Big 12 Women’s Player of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's tennis player Lisa Mays has been named Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. It marks the first recognition of Mays' career.

Texas Tech's Lisa Mays had a strong week last weekend at the Big 12/Pac-12 Mock Duals, going a combined 5-1 overall on the week and teaming up with Margarita Skriabina to take home the event's doubles title.

Mays went 3-0 in doubles and 2-1 in singles in mock duals against Utah, Kansas State and Kansas. It was the first action of Mays' 2020-21 season.

In doubles, Mays teamed up with Skriabina to defeat Kansas' Ngounoue/Manu (6-4), Kansas State's Turco/Barzo (6-4) and Hung/Dush (6-3) on the way to the tournament's top honors in doubles. In singles, the Lady Raider finished off the event with two straight set wins over Anastasia Goncharova of Utah and Malkia Ngounoue of Kansas.

The Lady Raiders will be back in action on Jan. 29 when they open the dual season against Arizona in El Paso.
