Red Raiders are at 11-under-par following rain-shortened opening day of Illini Collegiate Invitational
LUBBOCK, Texas – Gala Dumez and Anna Dong both fired 5-under-par 67 first rounds Monday to lead No. 16 Texas Tech over a rain-shortened opening day of the Illini Collegiate Invitational held at historic Medinah Country Club outside of Chicago.

Dumez and Dong both sank five birdies with no bogeys each during the morning round to push the Red Raiders to the top of the leaderboard as Tech combined for an 11-uder 277 card. Tech was even for its second round when the horn sounded with most of the field making the turn.

The even-par second round moved the Red Raiders into second place as a team at 11-under overall, only three strokes back of Georgia. The Bulldogs are currently 8-under in the second round after finishing 6-under over the first 18 holes, which was five strokes back of the Red Raiders.

Dumez and Dong were both among the individual leaders when play was halted as Dumez was heading to the 10th tee at even for the round, while Dong had dropped two strokes after 10 holes. Dumez will head into the final day in fourth place, only two strokes back of individual leader Carla Tejedo Mulet of LSU, while Dong is in a tie for eighth overall.

Amy Taylor drained five birdies of her own during the morning round en route to a 3-under card that has her in 12th overall. Taylor had a team-high eight birdies on the day, including three during the second round where she is 1-over through 10 holes.

Chelsea Romas and Chiara Horder rounded out the Tech lineup with 2-over and 4-over cards to start the event. Both freshmen have fared better through the front half of the second round as Horder is even for the round, while Romas is 1-under with a birdie at the par-5 4th and 10 pars.

Play will resume with the completion of the second round at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning followed by the final 18 holes. Live scoring will be available throughout the day at www.Golfstat.com. Â
