Texas Tech closed opening day of the Jim West Challenge in fifth place following pair of 3-over rounds
LUBBOCK, Texas – Gala Dumez combined to shoot 5-under-par Sunday to push No. 22 Texas Tech into fifth place following the opening two rounds of the Jim West Challenge held at the Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos. Â
Â
The Red Raiders, facing a challenging field with seven teams ranked in the top 40, combined to shoot 6-under 579 over 36 holes after a pair of 3-over 285 rounds. The performance left Tech only two strokes back of Miami for fourth place and nine back of Florida State in third. Oklahoma State sits atop the leaderboard at 29-under between the two rounds followed by TCU at 19-under in second place.
Â
Dumez, herself, is in a tie for fifth on the individual leaderboard, combining for 10 birdies to go along with an impressive eagle during the second round. Dumez drove the green at the par-4 18th, leaving roughly a 10-foot putt she drained that was sandwiched around a pair of birdies. The eagle paved the way for a 4-under 68 second round that was three strokes better than her start earlier in the day.
Â
In addition to Dumez, both Amy Taylor and Chiara Horder both rank near the top of the leaderboard as the duo is tied for 20th overall at 1-under for the tournament. Taylor signed for a 1-over card to start the tournament before responding with five birdies later in the day as part of a 2-under round.
Â
Horder only had four bogeys throughout her day as she was 1-under over the first 18 holes before finishing even during the afternoon. She is tied for second in the field with 27 pars through 36 holes as she sank five birdies on the day.
Â
All five players were 1-over or better during the opening round as Anna Dong notched a 2-under card with Chelsea Romas at 1-over on her own. Dong is in a tie for 44th after a 5-over second round, while Romas is a stroke back in a tie for 52nd following a 3-over afternoon score.
Â
The Red Raiders will be paired with Miami and sixth-place UNLV when the final round tees off with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Monday morning. Live scoring will be provided throughout the round at www.Golfstat.com. Live coverage can also be found throughout the day on ESPN+ with camera locations at the 9th, 13th and 18th holes as well as the No. 14 tee.
