Tech placed three inside the ITA Top-100 for the first time since February of 2019
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech Red Raiders tennis program has three members ranked inside the ITA Top-100 poll that was released Wednesday.
The three ranked players are the most that Todd Petty's squad has placed inside the Top-100 since February of 2019, when they also placed three members in the ITA rankings.
Sophomore Margarita Skriabina checks in at No. 46, while freshman Avelina Sayfetdinova is ranked No. 47 overall. The Red Raider's third player ranked was sophomore Kailey Evans who was tabbed 89th overall.
Tech's highest-ranked player, Skriabina, returns to the squad for her third season. As a true freshman in the COVID-19 shortened 2019-20 season, Skriabina recorded a 9-9 overall record, including a 3-1 mark against ranked foes. A season ago the native of Russia went 19-2 overall including an impressive perfect 6-0 mark in Big 12 singles action. Her strong performance earned her Second Team All-Big
12 honors.
A native of Moscow, Sayfetdinova arrives in Lubbock after a highly acclaimed junior career. Ranked inside the top-120 junior players in the world, the Russian recorded a junior record of 13-12 overall and won nine ITF junior doubles titles.
Tech's third and final ranked player is Kailey Evans. A native of Ennis, Texas, Evans looks to bounce back after suffering a season-ending injury during the 2020-21 season. Ranked as high as the No. 13 player in the 2020 class by TennisRecruiting.net, Evans was a combined 5-1 against four- and five-star players.
Texas Tech opens its 2022 spring season Jan. 14-16 at the San Diego Invite, before returning home to host UTEP and Abilene Christian on Jan. 21.
