Texas Tech Leads After Two Rounds in Utah

The Red Raiders will look for second-straight tournament title during Tuesday’s final round
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team concluded the opening day of the BYU Spring Classic in first place as three Red Raiders closed the first two rounds ranked among the top-five individuals at the San Hallow Golf Course.

The Red Raiders' recent success continued into Monday as Tech wrapped the first 36 holes of the two-day event in first place at 5-over-par 581, three strokes better than second place Iowa. Tech leads the rest of the 14-team field by double digits going into Tuesday's final round.

Sofia Garcia sits near the top of the leaderboard once again after closing the afternoon in a tie for third after sinking 12 birdies through 36 holes, which included a stretch of five birdies over her final nine holes to close the second round. Garcia was even on the day after signing a 1-over 73 card and then a 1-under 71 later in the day.

Cecilie Nielsen and Gala Dumez were both 2-over on the day to rank among the tournament leaders in a tie for fifth overall. Nielsen notched a 3-over 75 before rebounding with a 1-under 71, while Dumez signed an even-par card in the morning and then was 2-over to finish the day.

Anna Dong fired a pair of 2-over scores to move into a tie for 14th on the individual leaderboard, while Louisa Brunt rounded out Tech's lineup in 29th place at 8-over between the two rounds. Amy Taylor, playing as Tech's lone individual, was one stroke better than Brunt in a tie for 25th overall.

Tuesday's final round will begin with an 9:15 a.m. CT shotgun start with live coverage available via Golfstat.com.
