Aberg Leads Tech in Aggie Invitational Opening Round

BRYAN, Texas – Texas Tech sophomore Ludvig Aberg shot 1-over-par and is in 15th after a weather-delayed opening round of the Aggie Invitational on Friday at the Traditions Golf Club. Â
The No. 25 Red Raiders are currently in a tie for seventh in the 17-team event after posting a 10-over team total, while No. 5 Texas leads the tournament at 5-under. The Longhorns are the lone team under-par through 18 of 54 holes and are followed by No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 12 Texas A&M who are tied for second at 2-over.
The second round is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday with the final round set for Sunday.
Aberg started his weekend by shooting a 1-over, 73 on Friday with two birdies and three bogeys on his scorecard. A sophomore from Sweden who is at No. 5 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Aberg was at even-par after making birdie on his 10th hole of the day on the par 4, No. 1 hole but would close out the day with a bogey. Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas is one shot behind Aberg at 2-over after recording one birdie, three bogeys and 14 pars in the opening round. His lone birdie came on the par 4, 354-yard No. 6 hole.
Texas Tech senior Andy Lopez shot 3-over after leading Tech with six birdies on the first day, but also making seven bogeys and a double. He would birdie three par 4s, two par 5s and one par three. He would make three birdies on each side of the course. Kyle Hogan is at 4-over going into the second round after recording two birdies on Friday, while Martin is at 6-over after posting a 78 on the first day of the tournament. Martin had three birdies on the opening 18 but also had seven bogeys and a double to set him back on the leaderboard. Baard Skogen is playing the event as an individual in the tournament and is tied with Lopez for 35th after posting a 3-over.
Pierceson Coody (Texas) leads the tournament at 5-under followed by Alexander Frances (Houston) who carded a 5-under. There are currently 11 players under-par going into the second round.
