LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's tennis coach Todd Petty announced the signing of Cristina Tiglea to an NLI on Friday.
Â
"Cristina is one of the top young tennis players to come out of Italy," Petty said. "We are so excited to have her as part of the Red Raider family. She has a lot of elite match experience and plays with a true passion of the game. Cristina embodies the core values that make up our program. She puts the team before herself and has an eagerness to leave her mark with this group."
Â
Hailing from Milan, Italy, Tiglea will join the Lady Raiders for the 2021 fall season. She holds a Universal Tennis Rating of 10 and a career high of 11.13. She boasts a career high junior ranking of 335 and a career-best ITF pro ranking of 980.
Â
Having competed in a number of ITF events over the last few years, Tiglea has racked up 10 singles wins and four doubles wins and advancing in seven of her 12 singles tournament appearances since 2017. She has reached two professional doubles semifinals and three quarterfinals.
Â
Since 2018, Tiglea has reached the singles main draw round of 16 at the Monastir 5 ITF event in 2018 and Monastir 3 ITF in 2019. In doubles, she advanced to the Schio ITF tournament main draw quarterfinals.
Â
Tiglea joins a Lady Raider team that advanced to the round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament in 2021 led by a strong young core that racked up a number of All-Big 12 postseason awards.
Â
Tech finished the year with a 16-9 overall record and a 6-3 conference mark which was good for a third-place finish in the Big 12—outpacing the team's preseason poll projection. The Lady Raiders earned their first NCAA Tournament win since 2018 in May.
