Aberg Named to All-Nicklaus Team

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech sophomore Ludvig Aberg has been named one of 24 honorees for the 2021 All-Nicklaus Team presented by True Spec Golf which was announced on Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Aberg is currently No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and is set to compete in the 121st U.S. Amateur Championship at the Oakmont Country Club from August 9-15 in Pennsylvania before returning to Lubbock for his third season with the Red Raiders.
The All-Nicklaus Team was created in 2008, and is not only named for history's greatest player, Jack Nicklaus, but also to pay tribute to his long-time support of collegiate and amateur golf. Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Award in 1988 and it is now presented to the National Player of the year in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, as well as NAIA and NJCAA. Award recipients have combined for over 200 victories worldwide and claimed 23 major championships.
Aberg, a Fred Haskins Award finalist, earned PING All-America after leading the Red Raiders throughout the season, highlighted by winning The Prestige and the Thunderbird Collegiate before finishing fourth at the Big 12 Championship and NCAA Albuquerque Regional. He went into the national final with a 70.68 scoring average this season after shooting 9-under (70-69-68 – 207) in the regional tournament for his sixth top-5 finish this season. Aberg, who was a Ben Hogan Award semifinalist and also has a tournament win at the 2021 Jones Cup Invitational on his resume, has recorded 11 rounds in the 60s with low rounds of 65s coming in the final rounds of the Cabo Collegiate in San Antonio and the George Hannon Collegiate in Austin. He was a co-champion at the Thunderbird Collegiate after shooting 12-under by posting 67-67-67 – 201 which was the third best 54-hole score in Tech history.Â
