LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 9-ranked Texas Tech men's golf team returns to competition at the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational which will be played at the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is set for rounds on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with coverage on the Golf Channel and the individual champion earning an exemption to play in the PGA Tour's Houston Open.Â
Pairings and tee times for Monday's opening round will be posted on Sunday. Tech is currently ranked at No. 9 in the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll and will be competing in a 15-team field that includes No. 3 Arizona State, No. 5 Texas, No. 7 Oklahoma and No. 8 Wake Forest in Carrollton.Â
The Red Raiders will be represented this week by Ludvig Aberg, Kyle Hogan, Garrett Martin, Baard Skogen and Calum Scott in the second tournament of the fall schedule. Hogan is the reigning Maridoe Collegiate Invitational champion after shooting 1-under at last year's event where he posted 74-68-73 to earn the title and an exemption to play in the PGA Tour's Houston Open.
A senior from Cypress, Texas, Hogan led the Red Raiders by shooting 5-under in the season-opening tournament two weeks ago at The Carmel Cup where he shot a final-round 67 to surge up the leaderboard. Skogen, a sophomore from Norway, shot 3-under at The Carmel Cup for a 10th place finish for the Red Raiders.
Aberg comes into the Maridoe at No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking after a sophomore season where he earned All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the NCAA Championship stroke play. A junior from Sweden, Aberg finished as the runner-up at the European Amateur Championship over the summer and also competed in the U.S. Amateur Championship. Aberg finished 31st at The Carmel Cup at 3-over. He shot 8-over and finished 21st at last year's Maridoe Collegiate.
Martin finished tied for 7th at last season's Maridoe Collegiate and is coming off a 24th place showing at The Carmel Cup where he shot 2-under in the final round. A junior from San Antonio, Martin had four top-10 finishes last season including shooting 6-under for 10th at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional.
A freshman from Nairn, Scotland, Scott will be playing his second collegiate tournament this week after shooting even-par at The Carmel Cup to begin his career. Scott, who is the younger brother of Texas Tech All-American Sandy Scott, shot 69-75-72 at Pebble Beach in his first collegiate competition.
Texas Tech will be competing this week against Oklahoma, Texas, TCU, SMU, Arizona State, Baylor, Florida Gulf Coast, Ohio State, Southern Cal, Texas A&M and Wake Forest.
