Skriabina started the day in style for the Red Raiders, defeating No. 21 Alexandra Yepifanova of Stanford in straight sets (6-4, 6-2), while Sayfetdinova closed the day with a hard fought three-set (2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4) victory over No. 42 Maria Titova of Big 12 rival Kansas.
Other singles highlights included Oliva Peet rolling past Ludmila Kareisova of Ole Miss (6-1, 6-4) and Metka Komac dropping Olympe Lancelot of No. 15 FSU 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action, Sayfetdinova completed her perfect 2-0 opening day when she teamed up with Kailey Evans to earn a 6-3 victory over San Diego. Skriabina also closed the day 2-0, as the Russian paired with freshman Cristina Tiglea to earn a tough 7-6 (3) tie breaker victory over Kansas' Titova and Lacasse.
HEAD COACH TODD PETTY:
"It was a great day of competition for our ladies. We picked up two very good ranked singles wins and had some very competitive matches. We were pleased to go 3-1 in doubles which continues to be a focus for us. I hope to see more competitiveness from our team tomorrow. Hopefully we'll continue to be the team most excited to play as the tournament progresses."
