Texas Tech signee Shannon Tan will take part in prestigious event March 30-April 2 in Augusta
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's golf signee Shannon Tan has been selected to participate in the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur, which will take place March 30 through April 2 at possibly the country's most famous course.
This will be the third-consecutive year either a Red Raider or signee has been invited to Augusta after Sofia Garcia was previously picked for both the 2020 and 2021 events. The 2020 tournament was eventually canceled due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tournament will feature 54 holes of stroke play with a cut taking place after 36 holes, advancing the top-30 players to the final round. The first 36 holes will be played on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta before moving to Augusta National for the final round.
The entire field will play a practice round at Augusta National on April 1, closing what will be a memorable experience for Tan, a native of Singapore. Tan was one of two signees to ink with head coach JoJo Robertson's program last November following a strong amateur career playing in several of the top events around the world.
The individual champion will receive an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women's Amateurs, provided she remain an amateur, as well as the 2022 U.S. Women's Open, the 2022 Women's British Open and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championship for which she is eligible for one year.
Tan qualified for the event based on her World Amateur Golf Ranking, which has her at No. 78 in its most recent update. She is a two-time winner of the Singapore Junior Masters and has top-15 finishes the past three years at the Queensland Amateur, South Pacific Ladies Open, the Southeast Asia Games and the Singapore Junior Masters.
