No. 25 Red Raiders control two-stroke lead in Florida

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 25 Texas Tech women's golf team will head into Monday's final round of the Columbia Classic with a two-stroke lead after combining to shoot 4-over-par Sunday over 36 holes at the Duran Golf Club located just outside of Orlando, Florida.
The Red Raiders, playing in their spring debut, control a two-stroke lead over second place Virginia Tech as head coach JoJo Robertson's team will look for its first team victory of the season when play resumes Monday morning. Texas Tech has three top-five finishes already this year, including a runner-up showing at the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational.
Illinois and No. 2 Oklahoma State are both also in contention, trailing the Red Raiders by three and four strokes, respectively. Georgia rounded out the top five at 11-over for the two rounds, which placed the Bulldogs three strokes back of Oklahoma State and seven from the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech shot its way up the leaderboard thanks to a balanced approach with four players finishing ranked among the top-25 individuals. That doesn't include Cecilie Nielsen, either, who is tied for 25th, herself, as an individual following a 5-over 77 opening round and then a 1-over card in the afternoon.
Similar to this fall, Amy Taylor and Gala Dumez provided a veteran presence atop the lineup, closing the day in a tie for fifth and eighth overall. Taylor is 1-under for the tournament, one stroke better than Dumez, after bouncing back from a 2-over 74 start with a 3-under 69 card later in the day.
Dumez, meanwhile, hovered around even par throughout the day, joining Chelsea Romas with 1-under 71 opening rounds before chipping in a 1-over card. The strong opening round placed Romas in strong position for her best finish of her still young career as she is tied for 11th overall at 1-over for the tournament.
Chiara Horder found her way into the top 20 as well after signing for 1-over and 3-over rounds. She is in a tie for 18th overall, while fellow freshman Libby Fleming is in a tie for 40th at 9-over between the two rounds. Fleming is making her collegiate debut as she responded from a difficult 6-over start with a 3-over round later in the day.
The Red Raiders will be paired with both Virginia Tech and Illinois when the final round tees off at 7:30 a.m. CT Monday morning. Live coverage will be provided throughout the round at www.Golfstat.com.
